VIDEO: Community Food Works For Newcomer Settlement

Community Food Works (CFW) For Newcomer Settlement is a program that has been running since 2014 to aid in the integration and skill development of newcomers and refugees by providing food handlers training and certification, nutrition education, food skills, and employment and settlement support. This peer supported program is a partnership between Toronto Food Strategy, Toronto Public Health inspectors and dieticians, Toronto Employment and Social Services, and multiple community agencies. This program helps to highlight and provide; culinary skills, access to community spaces, dignity and opportunity, and employment and networking opportunities.

In 2017, the Toronto Food Strategy was honoured with the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact Award. The purpose of the award is to share knowledge with other cities around the world and this video is the direct result of that award. It features a visit by a Greek Delegation to share information about the CFW program. The video is an opportunity to share this initiative more widely with other cities around the world.

We had the pleasure of eating delicious food catered by the participants of the CFW program at our TFPC Planning Day in June! Enjoy the Video!
