Marketing for Change

Two Toronto-based food organizations that create social and economic opportunities for Canadians have been profiled in MENU – Canada’s Foodservice Magazine.

First up – Building Roots – Toronto’s first and only shipping container grocery store, located in Moss Park. Founded by Lisa Kates and Darcy Higgins in 2013, Building Roots exists to bring healthy food to all neighbourhoods.

Newcomer Kitchen – is a non-profit launched in 2016 by Len Senater of The Depanneur. It invites Syrian refugee women to cook a meal in the Depanneur kitchen each week to then sell online and share the proceeds among the women. It’s now being called upon to help launch similar concepts  in other cities across the world.
