FoodShare Presents: Is Toronto Failing Female Chefs of Colour?

Panel of Female Chefs of Colour

Toronto is home to a dynamic culinary scene, with several of the city’s restaurants and chefs receiving international acclaim. But whose voices and experiences are we centering in this growing foodie culture? While women make up close to 50% of all restaurant workers, only 20% are chefs and, glaringly, only 6% are head chefs. For female chefs of colour, the numbers are even lower. How could this be in a city with a motto of “Diversity Our Strength”? Join as we dive deeper into this conversation with an amazingly talented panel of women.

Eden Hagos of Black Foodie will moderate the panel featuring:
Joshna Maharaj – Chef / Speaker / Activist
Suzanne Barr – Chef / Author / Restauranteur
Mary Luz Mejia – Journalist / Food Festival and Event Curator / Content Marketer
Missy Hui – Chef at Large
